Hi,

I have received an error message this morning and my computer is at risk. While working with normal office program, it has thrown a message saying – “The file is infected and you must restart your computer to eliminate the virus completely”. Also, “The application or DLL C:WINDOWSfontsComRes.dll is not valid Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette”.

I am not clear about the message. I have been using a licensed updated Antivirus. Should I use Windows diskette?

Please help.

Hello,

You received this error message because you computer has been infected with virus.

Try to scan with your present antivirus software.

If it does not detect the virus then uninstall the antivirus software and install microsoft security essentials.

Hello Pat,

It seems like your computer has been infected with a virus that may corrupt or lead to loss of the files on your system if you do not tackle it fast enough. If you have antivirus on your computer, make sure that it is updated and then run a full computer scan to find the virus and remove it. You might as well just use system restore and then restore the computer to a moment in time when you were not getting the error.

Regards,

Nicke

If that error was triggered by your antivirus then the DLL file is probably infected. Try following the instruction and restart the computer. After booting, update your antivirus then perform a full system scan on your machine. You can also use Sophos Virus Removal Tool to scan your computer. This is one great tool to use on computers that are already infected.

Once installed, start Sophos then wait until the virus signature database gets updated. When updating is complete, click to scan your computer. Sophos scans everything on your computer including USB devices connected via USB port. Scanning takes time depending on the amount of data and the size of the drive.

When a virus is found at the end of the scan, remove it then repeat the scan over and over until it no longer detects a virus. You don’t need to disable or uninstall your existing antivirus to use Sophos Virus Removal Tool. The tool works alongside any antivirus program you may have.
