Good day!

I have a question about downloading, how can I know if the files like mp3, videos and applications that I download at many sites are safe and doesn't contain viruses, because sometimes there are incident that the anti virus that was installed on my computer doesn't detect the virus, although that anti virus was always updated.

Many sites are offering free downloads. Can you please give me tips to know, if the files that I am going to download is safe or not?

Hello Mon_anthony_era,

Be careful while browsing the internet, even the free stuff out there can have a cost, that is, a virus. There are many browser plug-ins that if you install will give you a warning when you are about to visit a website that might contain a virus.

I suggest you use Mozilla Firefox and search for such a plug-in. In addition, that antivirus software also has a feature of Online Protection, that do the same job as browser plug-in, so for this I suggest you purchase the latest version of AVG Internet Security.

I hope this was informative.

Hello,

To tell you the truth, there is no exact foolproof that you can detect whether a file that you downloaded has a virus or not. Some anti-virus can detect the little amount or types of virus and malware, making your computer vulnerable against newer ones. Some other anti-virus are so strict that even internal windows files are being detected as threats.

They delete these files and next thing you know, your system won’t load up. So to make sure that your files and over-all system is virus-free, regularly update your anti-virus program and regularly run a complete scan. If the file that you are downloading is an attachment from Yahoo or Gmail, always allow yahoo or Gmail to automatically scan the file.

Another good practice is to scan your downloaded files using an online virus scanning service such as VirusTotal. Also, never skip reading blogs and forums about safe websites where you can download audio, video or applications.
