Hello,

I had formatted my ACER laptop 2 days back, but now, the desktop background has vanished and it is fully black with just the icons! On the extreme right side bottom of the desktop, this message is seen permanently – "Windows 7, Build 7600, This copy of Windows is not genuine."

Can you advise me as to how to come out of this? Is this problem something serious? I am not much knowledgeable about computers. Should I again take my machine to get formatted? Is there any simple solution, which I can manage by myself?

Hope, experts like you would surely help me.

Thanks and good day.

Hello Shaisan Devasia!

The reason why your desktop background turns black and message showing not genuine is that you installed a pirated OS (Operating System). Where did you get the installer? You should buy a genuine one.

You can go back to where you purchased your laptop and ask for assistance. Nowadays, there's so many pirated copies out there.

Hi Shaisan,

To solve your problem, you must do some probing and more investigation. First, when you formatted your laptop two days ago, what kind of windows installer did you use? Where did you buy it from?

If you used a windows cd that is not genuine (in other word, counterfeit), this is probably the culprit. Buy a genuine windows seven cd from authorized stores in your area or order it online from Microsoft. Reformat your laptop using this cd and that will definitely solve this issue.

Now if after checking the disk you found out that it’s a legitimate copy of Windows 7, look for the activation key and type it on your computer. Click the start button and type ‘slui.exe’ and push enter. Choose your appropriate location and enter your activation key or follow the instruction to activate it via phone support. Once your system verified the key, you should be able to get your normal desktop back.

There are also some cases that this error appears even if your windows copy is genuine. Try to restart your pc and if you are still seeing the error message, run a complete scan of your antivirus.

You might find some harmful malicious threats that caused this error.
