Coreldraw and Adobe products have always had compatibility issues but that has improved. Illustrator is now able to open Coreldraw X3 files directly. You can also export your Coreldraw files as Illustrator files as well.
Open your file in Coreldraw.
Click File
Choose export
Click the drop down menu
Select Illustrator
Choose the version of Illustrator you want to export out
Select export.

I strongly believe that this is not a problem, all you need is VBA. Download and install it on your PC. But if that does not solve the problem, uninstall VBA if it is currently installed and active in some minutes, after that install and begin the process again. But if the problem occurs again after a while, I suggest you try an installation repair which can be done from the control panel of your PC.
