I heard that we can use Blackberry Smart phones as a modem to connect to internet, but i have not yet have the chance to try it before. Now i travel much and thought there might be a chance that i forgot to bring my modem with me and have to use my phone as a modem to connect to internet.

I have tried to set the connection by following the instruction in the Blackberry Desktop software in my laptop. I have connected my Blackberry to my laptop using data cable and choose set as modem. I have inserted my internet provider details that is used in my Blackberry. I set the connection and tried to connect but the respond is that the PPP setting is not correct.

Where can I find the setting for the PPP? What is the correct setting?

Is there any other way to create a network connection with BB Smartphone as modem?

Thanks

Tethering means sharing the Internet connection of an Internet-capable mobile phone with other devices. So first, if you want to connect your BB Curve 8520 to your laptop as a modem, then you need to ask your service provider if they allow tethering.

Desktop Manager in BB's includes the component necessary to tether, but the feature is only present if the mobile service provider allows it. My advice is to talk to your service provider and ask if they permit tethering, and the cost.

Some carriers do not charge extra for tethering under fair use provisions, but most do charge a fee in addition to your BlackBerry data plan.

But here is a video to give you an idea for easier instructions.
