Can you change from Windows to Mac?

Okay lets say I have a laptop with windows on it already any type of windows. Now you know how the apple database is different. Can I take a windows laptop and change it from like windows xp to an apple software? Will I be able to take a windows laptop and change it so that it works just like an apple device?  This is what I was wondering and if so how would you go about it and how long will it take? Basically from a windows to a mac.
