I have a Dell 19 inch LED monitor connected up to a tower PC. My tv went out last night and it will be awhile until I can order and get another delivered. Is it possible to hook my dish box up to my monitor directly? Or something I can build to combine them together?

Generally, an LED monitor is just a plain and simple computer monitor or computer display that doesn’t have TV reception or is not capable of receiving any TV signals. It’s only function is to display whatever image is being fed by the computer. If your TV broke down and you want your LED monitor to be used as an instant replacement for your broken TV, I don’t think that’s possible.

But nonetheless, there is still a way to use your LED monitor as a TV with the help of a TV tuner card. This device comes in 2 forms: as a portable USB type that easily plugs in to your USB port, and as an internal TV tuner card. The first type is similar to a USB flash drive that you insert onto the USB port. See image.

The second type is a card that needs to be installed inside your CPU. This one is not plug-and-play like the USB type. The card type requires a driver to be installed in the operating system. See image.
