I suspect that my ipad has a virus. But I ignored it initially since it’s very uncommon for an ipad to have a virus. But I am scared of connecting it to my computer. Can i get malware on my ipad, and can it get transferred to computer?

I think it was not smart on your part to ignore the potential malware. Never believe someone when they say “this particular thing cannot be infected”. Hackers nowadays are very smart and they are continuously developing new viruses.
Yes, Ipads are potentially safer because they do no run java or flash, and they come loaded with some apple programs meant for protection, but it still may get corrupted.
All this said, if you have a good anti virus on computer, the virus will be detected.
