Before I will purchase an iPad 2 from the USA, I’d like to know if it’s true that UK app store is not compatible with an American iPad.

Hi Lyka,

It will largely depend on which version of the iPad you buy, If for example you buy the Wi-Fi version then it should work just fine. Ensure you also stick with the original software that came with your phone. If it is the 3G model then it is advisable that you buy it in the UK if you are to use it there. This has a contrast in the USA version as it has an AT&T. The American iPad if purchased out or off from the apple.com will not work in the UK so note with keenly where your buy your iPad. Because it may experience technical difficulties when in the UK. Then the Wi-Fi and the access to music will not work.

You may have to consider speaking to the apple customer support at

Apple iPad 2 compatibility concern

The Apple iPad 2 Wi-Fi + 3G supports 2G and 3G networks but it doesn’t support GSM voice communication. It was announced and released on March 2011. It measures 241.2 x 185.7 x 8.8 millimeters and weighs 607 grams. It uses a micro-SIM card. It has an LED-backlit IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display with 16M colors at 768 x 1024 pixels screen resolution.

It is protected by scratch-resistant glass with oleophobic coating plus multi-touch support. It runs on iOS 4 upgradable to iOS 8.3 powered by Apple A5 chipset, Dual Core 1 GHz Cortex-A9 processor, and PowerVR SGX543MP2 GPU. It doesn’t support microSD. It runs on 512 MB RAM with internal storage available in 16 GB, 32 GB, and 64 GB capacities.

The primary camera supports 0.7 megapixels at 960 x 720 pixels. It can record video in 720p at 30 fps. The secondary camera supports VGA. It has Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP and EDR, GPS with A-GPS, USB 2.0, and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n with dual-band. It includes accelerometer, compass, and gyro sensors. The built-in Safari browser supports HTML only. It doesn’t support Java.

It runs on non-removable [25 Wh] Li-Po 6930 mAh battery with standby time up to 720 hours and talk time up to 9 hours. Regarding the UK app store, I don’t see any reason why an iPad from the US will not be compatible. The UK app store is just a website for iOS applications based in the United Kingdom. It is the same as with the US app store and the only difference is their locations.

The compatibility of the app you will be purchasing will depend on the version of your current iPad. If you have an iPad 2, make sure the app you will be purchasing and will be downloading supports iPad 2.
