Hello! As we all know there is a default windows firewall which can be turned on in settings and windows keep on suggesting that I turn it on. But I want to know what exactly does firewall do? Will it affect my computer's performance and speed or not?
Does it protect my computer against viruses or not?
Windows firewall hels and protect you from malicious software that might wreck your computer and also keeps your system safe from hackers. Through firewall you are able to block any incoming connections when you are connected to a public network e.g. free wifi. Windows firewall will not affect your computer's speed, however, it acts as a shield against viruses which might slow your system's performance.
A firewall is a program that protects the network or the computer from destructive elements, malware and viruses.
It is configured in both software and hardware or either of the two to prevent illegal access to a network.
They are configured on the incoming and outgoing ports as well.
On the network they block the packets of data that it does not consider to be safe for the network, else the network or the computer could have been prone to malicious attacks.
They filter various variables like domain name, port, IP addresses etc.
Though firewalls have a lot of benefits, it decreases the data transmission rates and reduces the computer performance.
Firewall is used to prevent unwanted access between your computer and the internet. For example, if you do not allow the port 3389 connected, you will not able to use remote desktop connection even though you have enabled the remote desktop services as the port is blocked by the firewall. However, it cannot protect against viruses as there are different forms of viruses. For example, some viruses may hi-jack your browser which is not related to the internet connection.
