I have an Atheros WLAN Driver (Atheros AR5006 802.11a/b/g WiFi Adapter) and I recently upgraded my router and I cannot connect to the internet after that.

I have been told by my friend that I can use Atheros WLAN Driver to Fix Connection Issues With Many New Routers, now I want to make sure if this is right?

Also if there is any driver available that should solve the situation.

Hello Leonard S Lockhart,

As there are some of the problems that if you upgrade your router then you also have to upgrade your software you can get it from the cd of your router.

But still if you do not get it from there then you can get from the general version of the software or 3rd party firmware so that you can access internet.

So you can use OpenWRT Backfire software that can also help you in connecting to the internet.

Hi Leonard,

I believe there is nothing wrong with your WLAN driver. If you did not make any changes to it after upgrading the router. However, it will be a good start to check if the driver is installed properly.

To check the driver just follow these steps:

1. Right click on my computer.

2. Select manage. After that you will see a computer management screen, On the left hand side, look for Device manager and click on it. On the right hand side, look for network adapters and make sure that the name of your wireless card is there. If everything is good, then the next step would be to check your wireless settings.

If you upgraded or changed your router, then you would need to check if your computer is connected to your wireless network. This means that the computer should be connected to the upgraded router and not to the old one.

That may be the reason why you are no longer able to connect to the internet. Same thing if you upgraded the firmware of the router. The router and wireless settings might have been changed and whatever previous settings you have, were reset.

Thanks,

Thomas
