If your Windows 7 is very slow, it probably just requires some maintenance to improve its performance again. But first, you should check your system for possible virus infection. Update your antivirus and perform a full system scan. If the scan turns out negative for virus, try doing some maintenance on your computer. First, go to Download CCleaner then download and install the free version.

Once installed, start CCleaner and clean your system. Next, download PC Tools Performance Toolkit. Follow the instructions to download and unpack and then install it. Once installed, start PC Tools then go to “Performance” tab and click “Clean Your Registry”. On the next screen, make sure “Complete Registry Scan” is selected then click “Start Scan” to begin analyzing.

When it is finished, click “Repair” to clean the Windows registry. After this, go to “Privacy” tab and run all the tools except “Bleach Disks” and “Shred Files”. When this is finished, go back to “Performance” tab and click “Compact Your Registry”. Here, click “Start” to begin the checking then follow the instructions. Restart the computer when it prompts you.

After booting, start PC Tools again then go back to “Performance” tab and click “Defragment Disks”. In “Action”, make sure “Deep Defragmentation” is selected then select drive C from the list and click “Start” to begin the defragmentation of the system drive. This should improve the performance of your machine.

This should take some time depending on the size of the drive and the level of the fragmentation.
