Analyzing the efficient use of resources in MS Project

I have the role of Manger and I am trying to analyze the efficiency of tasks assignment and status of the tasks. If I select one individual task, what should I do to view the efforts of all associated put into that task in one view? Is there a way to create custom group so that I can view efficiency of selected associate in the entire project? What is work filed primarily used for? Does it have anything in store for my requirement? How to use work file?
