Do you know is there any advanced word count for Ms-Word where I can give a condition?

I need to count the number of occurrences of a particular word.

This should be done in a paragraph and then for the complete document.

Anyone has any idea how to achieve this?

Advanced word count for msword to count particular words

Hi Erickson,

There are 2 solutions that I know of which would give you the frequency of a Specific word or group of words in a MS Word document:

The first one makes use of the 'Find In' button of the Find and Replace dialog box (note: I am using v2007 of the word).

To count occurrence for the entire document:

  1. Go to Home Tab -> Find (or Ctrl + F).
  2. The Find and Replace dialog appears as shown below, input the word or phrase in the 'Find What' field, in the below example I would like to know the occurrence of the word 'quick'.
The Find and Replace dialog appears
  1. Click the 'Find In' button, then Click Main Document. You should be able to see the count as shown in the red box below, The words are also highlighted in your document:

To count occurrence in specific paragraphs only, you will need to highlight the paragraph beforehand, then follow the above steps again but this time, clicking the 'Find In' button now gives you an additional option which is 'Current Selection' as shown below:

To count occurrence in specific paragraphs

You will then be able to know the count of that word in the highlighted paragraph/s:

count of that word in the highlighted paragraph

The second option would be to use the Replace method:

To search the entire document:

  1. Go to Home Tab -> Replace (or Ctrl+H)
  2. The input word or words in the 'Find What' field AND in the 'Replace with' field.
find and replace
  1.  Click 'Replace All'. You will be prompted by the results. The number of replacements will correspond to the number of occurrences of the word or words. Since we specified it to be replaced with the same word/s, nothing has changed in the document.

Using the Replace method for Specific paragraphs, just select the paragraph before doing the Replace. You will be able to get the count for that specific paragraph.

Hope This information helps you in your endeavor.

Regards,

Laurie
