How to install windows XP and remove fedora?

Hay genius,

You can say that I am a newbie in IT solution and that’s why I am here to find a clue to solve an issue which I have been facing for a couple of days. The issue (concerned with my PC) is that I am trying to install Windows XP on a computer that has Fedora installed on it already. I am not hesitating to share with you guys that my sister bought this from someone (probably from a CD house) and my husband have forgotten the password they used earlier in this?

I also do not have any type of information/knowledge about the computer to help or maybe I am not capable enough to do it. I cannot even get pass the login page to see any information about it (for Fedora).

I had putted the Microsoft windows XP disk in it and (it will boot) from compact disk and then I (or anyone) also can hear the disk spin for about 50 seconds or even more, but then it stops spinning and there appears only a black screen. It is observed by me that it’s booting up from my disk when it starts up at first. It also goes ahead to guide further as “to boot from disk press any key” but after doing no action. 

I really do not have further knowledge that how I can get anything installed on here to use this item/thing. Moreover, I have done many things to solve this problem with my own technical knowledge but I have gained no success to do it so far.

To fix this issue I first of all, I checked the BIOS boot system (to see whether the CD drive is the first drive in boot order) but I have inspected enough and observed that this is not the reason of it. Then, I checked the drive and it is also working at its best. I also have tested the CD for its bootable capability but it is 100% bootable.

Thus, I have tried all the tricks/things I knew, to solve this issue but not been successful till the present date.

I am here to get a clue about, how to install windows XP and remove fedora?

For installing the Windows XP on your computer you should first remove the fedora from the computer and then you can install the Windows XP on your computer. Because the Linux native partition and Linux swap partitions are not compatible with Windows XP. So you will have to manually remove the partitions from your computer. Then the partition that is compatible with windows will be automatically created while you install the Windows XP on your computer.

For removing the fedora from your computer you will have to use the fedora bootable disk. You will have to delete the disk partitions from the fedora bios options. You can configure the Linux boot manager to boot your computer from the hard disk master boot record or from the root folder of the Linux partition. You can use the Fdisk tool that is included with the fedora for deleting the partitions from your computer.

For removing fedora from your computer you can insert the fedora boot disk into your computer and then you can restart your computer. Then you can type the word fdisk in the command prompt and you can press enter. If you want to get help with the fdisk tool then you can type m on the command prompt and then you can press enter. 

After that you can type p in the command prompt for displaying the partition information. In the displayed information you can see that the first information displayed is hard disk 1, partition 1 information and the second item listed is hard disk 1, partition 2 information.

After that you can type the letter D on the command prompt and then you can press enter. Then you will be prompted for the partition number that you want to delete. You can then enter the number 1 to and then you can press enter to delete the partition number 1. Similarly you can repeat the steps until all the partitions have been deleted.

You can then type the letter w in the command prompt and then you can press enter. This will write the information in the partition table. Sometimes some error messages may be displayed, you can ignore this because you are going to remove fedora and install the windows XP. After that you can type the letter q in the command prompt and then you can press enter. This will quit you from the fdisk tool.

After that you can insert the bootable CD of XP into the CD drive of your computer and then you can press CNTRL+ALT+DELETE for restarting your computer. You can then follow instructions that appear on the screen to install XP from the CD. You can partition the hard drive into two or three parts and then you can install the windows XP on the C drive of your computer. 

When the computer asks whether to create a partition you can press the C to create a partition. You can allocate enough space to each partition. You can then format the partition using the NTFS file system.CNTRL+ALT+DELETE for restarting your computer. You can then follow instructions that appear on the screen to install XP from the CD. 

You can partition the hard drive into two or three parts and then you can install the windows XP in the C drive of your computer. When the computer asks whether to create partition you can press the C to create a partition. You can allocate enough space to each partition. You can then format the partition using the NTFS file system.

Hi,

  • Why don’t you try to remove the hard disk of your PC and save it to another PC?
  • This is the very simple trick that most technicians do if they can’t get rid of the OS on the hard disk.

After you insert your hard disk to another PC and finish installing your hard drive to the PC.

  1. Go to start > and click control panel.
  2. In control panel click the administrative tools.

  1. In the administrative tools, double click computer management.
  2. In computer management click the disk management.
  3. Now you will see all the hard drives on the PC including your hard disk.

Just choose your hard disk and right click to it and delete its partition, and then right click again to the hard disk and create a new partition, the dialog box will appear, just check the format and its automatically format your hard disk after you close the dialog.

After the format complete shut down the PC and remove formatted hard disk and return it to its original PC, now you can try to install your Windows XP without any problem.
