First of all Bulk e-mail software usually used for legitimate mailings .The advantage of this type of program are:

1. You can send large number of e-mails.

2. It's very to use.

3. You will be able to create HTML ads and Use pictures.

DISADVANTAGES:

1. You have to use it every day to see any results.

2. Some products are being neglected because of bulk e-mail.

There are tons of free and open source email marketing software.

 

The advantages of these kind of software are:

 

1. Easiest way to meet target audience/customer

 

2. Highest profitable return on investment (in this case since its open source, 100% profit)

 

Disadvantages:

 

1. Mass email are mainly regarded as spams and therefore the spam filters those emails which could theoretically hamper your business/promotion.

 

2. And most probably the recipient will be unresponsive and will ignore the mail(s)

 

3. Could hamper the email marketing campaign.
