Two Older GPU’s better than One Top-of-the-line one?

Right now, I've got two Crossfired AMD Radeon HD 5770 graphics cards and I've had them both for around 3 years now, adding the second one just a few months after the first, but my question is, should I stick with my current dual-GPU configuration, or should I invest in the new AMD Radeon HD 7970, which is a top-of-the-line graphics processor.

Hi Tomarroyo,

 

From an expert standpoint, I believe it’s better for you to invest in the Radeon HD7970. The specs of the Radeon HD5770 is far below that of the newer HD7970. In theory, if you crossfire two HD5770s, it should provide you with twice its performance. However, in reality, the actual efficiency brought by these two combined GPUs equates to just 1.8x instead of 2x.

If you look at the link below, it will give you a comparison of the two GPUs, and you will notice that the Radeon HD7970 is far superior in performance even if you crossfire two HD5770s.

Hello,

I have read your question about crossfire vs a single dedicated gpu, what i can say is you should invest on the 7970 because even with your current setup a single 7970 is faster and there's not a lot of games that utilizes the crossfire setup. Also the 7970 is strong enough even for a quad 5770 so you really invest on the newer 7970 gpu.
