Are there any software or ways that companies can install in to their infrastructure so that bosses can monitor the employees’ computers and capture their personal instant messages while using the company’s local network? Do companies really do this?

Yes there are some software's by which you can easily make a system by which you can be able to watch your employees works. Many companies are doing such type of things especially for trainee's, as they can easily keep an eye upon there employees. This is an inexpensive process so everyone likes to do this. For making an infrastructure you have to install a web-hosted system that combines software on the PC with remote monitoring services. There are also some tools like; a desktop security suite and professional tracking software.

There is another way of making this kind of infrastructure is this; by combining host, server and appliance with the employees software. These are some ways, which are applied my many countries throughout the world and the reason of doing by many companies is their cheapness and simplicity.
