Dell Inspiron E1505 RAM replacement question

Hello everyone. I want to replace my Dell Inspiron E1505's Random Access Memory from 512 Duo to 2-1GB memory. There are 633 Megahertz in the 512 one. What I want to know is, is it safe for me to install two 1GB 667 MHZ? Or do I keep the 533 Megahertz? Thanks in advance.

Random Access Memory module speeds are backwards compatible, so it is safe for the system if you would use a 667 MHz memory module. Memory modules are backwards compatible, so if a system works only at a speed that's lower like let's say 533 MHz, then the memory module will work at that speed. However, if your system can handle speeds like 667 MHz, then i would suggest you go for the 2 1 GB memory modules. This should give your system some performance boost and not waste your rated memory module's speed. You also might as well max out your system's memory to get the most boost.

Hello Dear,

I suggest you use RAMs of the same speed. If your first RAM has a 633 MHz bus speed, then you should choose another RAM with the same bus speed, so that they can run properly without creating any problems.

On the other hand, if you get two RAMs with different bus speeds, then you will have many errors and problems.

As you said, you want to install two 1GB RAMs with 667 MHz and 663 MHz. These can both run very well, but if you add one with 533 MHz bus speed, it will create problems.
