It can be done when transferring files from iMac to iPad by the use of the app of iCloud computing. You'll need to familiarize yourself with how to get the documents off from the iMac and going into the iPad.

The easy way to do it are doing the following 2 sets of instructions, where 1 way to do it is good as the other.

You can use the iTunes app called Apple's File sharing. This iTunes 9.1.1 a conduit to get the files off from the iPad.

Open iPad to your iMac and iTunes then selects iPad iTunes library by clicking on an itunes App tab, then look for File sharing sections but you need to scroll down to locate this feature.

In this section, you'll see the list of apps that can be used for File Sharing. Choose the one you'd like and locate any files you already added on iPad.

To copy the documents form iPad going to your iMac using File Sharing, you have to connect the iPad to your computer then the iTunes needs to be open. Select the iPad in iTunes library then select the desired app and save it. Navigate the folder when the dialog box is open and select the file you want to save then click on the Open.
