It seems like you are trying to run an update for the Symantec antivirus when there is already one that is running on your system. Do the following to fix the issue:

• Press Ctrl+ Alt + Del on you keyboard, and the Click on Start Task Manager.
• In the task manager windows, go to the processes tab and click on it.
• Locate all processes related to Symantec antivirus that are running and then end them.
• After that restart the computer.
• After the computer has reboot you can retry running the update again.

Error With Symantec Anti Virus

This error code “LU1840” is normally encountered with Norton Internet Security but no support from Symantec has a fixed solution to this. The supposed solution on the Symantec website to fix this problem is not working for some users. The problem is encountered when you try to update your Norton product. Normally, the product updates by itself automatically.

It updates the virus definitions to the latest automatically like any other security program. But if your Norton product stops updating and you see this error, some of the users were able to fix it using the Norton Intelligent Updater. It will download the virus definitions update of your product to the latest directly from Symantec.

Go to the Intelligent Updater download page and select the correct definition set for your product. The definition sets on the page are for different Norton products so check every definition set to see if your product is included. Just download the file and run it. Another way is to use the “Norton Remove and Reinstall” tool. Download the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool.

Once downloaded, double-click the downloaded file to launch it then click “Agree” to accept the license agreement. Next, click “Remove & Reinstall” or “Remove” whichever is available. After this, click “Continue” or “Remove” then “Restart Now”. After booting, follow the instructions to install your Norton product back. If you are using Norton Family, you need to uninstall it first before running the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool.
