Definition of Virtual Desktop Infrastructure

Hi. 

Can someone tell me what is Virtual Desktop Infrastructure or the VDI and how is it differ with Virtual Machine (VM), Server Based Computing (SBC)  and to VMware. What are its most common functions and capabilities? And what does a simple VDI Environment consist of? Thank you for any immediate replies.

Definition of Virtual Desktop Infrastructure

This is a practice of getting to host a desktop operating system within a virtual machine or machines. The system is run on a central server. It allows variation on client server computer model. It is sometimes known as client based computing model.The term was brought about by  the VM incware.In the last few years it has been an option to many large firms dealing with computers thus replacing server based computing models. It can also be defined as a separation of a personal computing desktop environment to a non physical machine using a  client based server, it is also referred to as Virtual Desktop interface sometimes. When the size of an organisation enlarges and the technical and network needs enlarge the only option is VDI because it is able to handle all that would be a hectic mess in one client server machine.
