Hi There,
The best open source software I will suggest is the MySQL which is available in both free and paid version. Free versions always have limitations but it will do enough of your job. It is the most popular now a days. So there is no question of reliability of MySQL. The best thing of MySQL is its fundamental simplicity, you can administer using lots of command lines, but most importantly you are not entirely restricted to this. There are also a lot of free tools available to most of the work. So you can choose the by closing your eyes.
