What is Multicasting? How does multicasting work? What are the traditional ways in which packets are sent between hosts? How is a multicast different from a broadcast? Name the different steps for multicasting? Differentiate between hardware multicasting and IP multicasting. What happens during the mapping of the hardware multicasting to the IP multicasting?

How multicasting works better than the traditional methods of communication between hosts

Multicast is interaction or communication between a single sender or a single user and numerous receivers or recipients on a network. An example of its application is the regular issuance of online newsletters. Multicast is one of the packet types in IPv6 or the Internet Protocol version 6 together with unicast and anycast.

As part of the CDPD or the Cellular Digital Packet Data technology, wireless data networks support multicast. It is also applied for programming on the MBone. MBone is a system that lets internet users at high-bandwidth points to receive or accept live video and sound programming.

Besides using a particular high-bandwidth subset of the internet, MBone multicast is also capable of using a protocol that lets signals to be encapsulated as TCP/IP packet when passing through sections or parts of the internet that can’t manage or directly handle the multicast protocol.
