What are the significant functions of magnet in the field of Sound engineering and production? What are the reasons surrounding the use of magnet in the building of speakers? The Significant Functions of Magnets in Sound Production

Hello,

Speakers work with the power of magnetism and that’s why a magnet is required and a must to create any speaker.

The speaker contains a bold, strong magnet that creates a default but strong magnetic force of its surroundings. A coil of wire is set inside it which is connected a cone-shaped paper.

We know that electricity has an attraction towards magnets and vice versa. When any sound is transferred into the speaker, it’s modulated and the pulse goes through the coil of wire. The coil gets a magnetic power with electricity flow and the magnet either attracts or prevents the coil. This movement creates vibration on the paper and the vibration is spread in the air.

Thus, the sound vibration is created and we listen sound/music from a speaker.

Speakers allow you to listen to music and to enjoy and understand what is happening when you are watching a movie. A TV also has built-in speakers so you can hear what it is showing. To be able to convert an electrical signal into audible sound, speakers have electromagnets, one on each speaker.

An electromagnet is a metal coil where when an electric current flows through it, a magnetic field is created. The coil acts as a normal magnet. Inside a speaker or in a speaker, you will see an electromagnet and a permanent magnet. The electromagnet is positioned in front of the permanent magnet.

The electromagnet is mobile or movable while the permanent magnet is set permanently in its position. While the electric current passes through the coil of the electromagnet, the course of its magnetic field is changed quickly. This means, the magnetic field is drawn to and repelled from the permanent magnet, which causes it to vibrate back and forth.

The electromagnet is fastened to a cone which is made of an elastic material. The cone amplifies or increases the vibrations produced between the electromagnet and the permanent magnet which then creates pumping sound waves into the surrounding air on the way to your ears.
