Setting up DLNA connection between PC and Motorola Defy Smartphone

Hello,

I just bought a Motorola Defy smartphone, and I would like start using DLNA. I have received the information that I should set up a DLNA server on my PC (which has wireless connection, of course), but I do not know which software I need and how to set it up… My goal is to play videos from my PC using my phone. I have tried Windows Media Player / Enable Streaming but my phone can only see itself as a media server. I'm using Windows XP SP3.

Hi Tapaig,

      All you need is a Video Converter software in order for you to play videos on your PC.  Motorola defy cannot play matroska video files because it contains different codes in which Motorola can't recognized those codes.  What to do is you have to download WinX HD Video Converter DeLuxe is a the best software for video conversion regarding the Motorola Defy.

Hello Tapaig,

Good choice! I actually loved that phone too.

Motorola Defy already has a built in media share application. As long as your device such as computer and PS3 are compatible and is connected to a wireless network then everything should be fine. There is not even a need of any software to run the program.

To use Media Share, simply select Launcher icon then look for Media share and select the specific feature you want to use. For example, if you want to select a file for playback on another device through a wireless network then you need to choose “Play Media” and if you want  other people that is connected to same wireless network to view your pictures and play videos/songs on their own devices then you must choose “Share Media”

The Media Share wizard will also provide you additional steps on how to make this feature works.

Here is the catch though. Some audios or videos are not supported by DLNA because of a license charge. Examples are but not limited to: MPEG2 video and AC3 audio.

On the contrary, here is the list of files supported by this feature: AAC, H.263, H.264, MP3, MPEG-4, WAV, eAAC+, WMA v10, MIDI, AAC+

I f you would still insist on getting those files played on the pc for DLNA even if the file is not supported then we can try converting its format.
