There are lots of key functionalities in CISCO hierarchical model. I will give you the main functionalities form all of them.
1. Desktop Layer
2. VLAN ( Virtual LAN work group definition)
3. User access to local available resources
4. Using virtual access list or filter lists to follow policies implemented at the distribution layer.
