Could not access Windows Installer Service on MS Office 2003 installation

I am trying to install Microsoft Office 2003 on one of my Windows Vista machine. I had to completely wipe this machine off, since it had an infection, which could not be removed with the help of an Antivirus.

 

The machine is clean now and I am trying, to get it ready for official use. When I try to install Microsoft Office 2003 I get the following error.

 

The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact you support personnel assistance.

I tried to do a research on the Internet and found it could be sometimes a permission issue. I have added my user account as a part of Domain admin as well as local admin. But I get the same error message, while installing the application.

Please help.

Could not access Windows Installer Service on MS Office 2003 installation

This problem may happen when Windows XP is used in Normal mode. Also this happens when the Win Installer Service is damaged by any reason.

To solve this problem, first log on to your PC. You should log on as an administrator. After that, click on Start, and then click on Run. In Open type cmd, and click OK. Then type msiexec.exe /unregistered and then Enter. System account must be checked for access permissions to the hkey_classes_root hive in the registry. You may have to add Administrator account. After that you should restart the computer. I hope this helped a bit.

You are getting that error when installing Microsoft Office 2003 because the setup wizard was unable to find any versions of Windows Installer running on your system. And since this service is requested by the current task, you will not be able to continue with it until you install Windows Installer on your computer.

Try visiting http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8483 and then download Windows Installer 4.5 Redistributable. Just download the appropriate version for your Windows Vista and then install it. After installing Windows Installer 4.5 Redistributable, you can now continue on installing Microsoft Office 2003 on your computer.

Windows Installer 4.5 Redistributable supports these Windows operating systems both 32-bit and 64-bit versions:

• Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1
• Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2
• Windows XP Service Pack 2
• Windows XP Service Pack 3
• Windows Vista
• Windows Vista Service Pack 1
• Windows Server 2008
