Hi james,

I hope your having a nice day, I hope you are enjoying it, Using the iphone is fairly simple when you get used to it,

About iphone automatic updates you can set it on or off by following these simple steps

1- Open settings

2- Go to itunes & appstore

3- Select updates on or off

For app size

Go to settings-> display and brightness -> choose standard or zoomed

The standard view gives you small app icons size, While you zoomed gives you larger icons and fonts.
