Hi Mega Joe,

Try this:

1. Uninstall all and remove all sound drivers.

2. Reboot the system and go to windows update. Disable automatic download and install. Otherwise it will get privies driver setting automatically.

3. Go to the Asus download page type P5PE-VM at Model Name Search and search. (Maybe it will redirect to another search page, just click search again). Click P5PE-VM and select OS windows XP, download SoundMax driver.

4. Extract it and select setup.exe. Right click, go properties and make it as windows XP compatible. After running that setup file and reboot.

Do not update the driver from device manage.

Good luck.

Hello Mega,

Since you did an upgrade from windows XP to windows 7, you will also need to make sure that you have updated the sound drivers on your computer.

Here is how you will do it:

  • On your computer, click the Start button, and then locate Computer and right click on it.
  • After that click Properties.
  • In the window that will open, locate Task Manager and then click on it.
  • In the Task Manager window, you will need to look for the sound drivers and then right click on them.
  • Update the drivers online. You will need to have an active internet connection for the update to be successful.

Regards,

Carl
