Hello Kingstone,
As an XP user you can’t really find the Scan disk word unlike Windows 95/98/ME that you can locate easily because Scan Disk in XP now is called Check Disk or ( Scan Disk = Check Disk in XP). I hope you may not wonder that there is big difference now in performing that task because it need to restart after Check Disk display summary of its activities. Here are following guide of Check Disk.
1. Locate My Computer on your desktop or in start menu.
2. Right click on the hard disk drive you want to have Check Disk and choose Properties then click Tools Tab.
3. Under a Tools tab find the error checking and click check now.
4. Another box appears the Check disk just check both box then click start.
5. A message appear that disk check utility need exclusive access to some Windows file on the disk just try to
restart your system to be able to proceed Check Disk.
6. You may see check disk screen after system restarted and process will take a long time just finish it to
have a successful scan of your disk and to know file system status.
