Hi, my friend sent me a video file with .mkv extension. It doesn’t work with my current frame by frame divx software. I need to edit it badly. I assumed it should work with all divx software.

Good day Justin

A few years ago i searching for a video converter and stumbled on a open source website. I found a nice application that i`m still using today. It is called Avidemux you can download it here https://sourceforge.net/projects/avidemux/  . This application is easy to use, install and use.

You can cut out frames, add frames, change the soundtrack.

This is a really good a editor, frame by frame that you were looking for.

Hopefully you can use the info.

Good luck.

If you have a video in Matroska format or MKV (*.mkv), you need to convert it first into AVI or other formats since some video editors don’t support the Matroska container. You can use ImTOO MPEG Encoder to convert the MKV file into AVI or other formats that your video editor supports.

The latest ImTOO MPEG Encoder at the moment supports Windows XP Service Pack 2 or higher, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8.x, and Windows 10. It requires 1 GHz or faster Intel or equivalent AMD processor, 256 MB RAM, 50 MB free space, and 16-bit video card. After converting the MKV file into the format supported by your video editor, you can now begin editing the file.

After editing the file, if the size of the output video is quite big for you, you can shrink it further by installing HandBrake Video Transcoder. HandBrake saves or converts the video file into M4V format by default (*.m4v) and uses the H.264 video codec.
