Connected hard disk to T.V, not being detected by Laptop

Dear All, given that my satellite decoder has pre-recording facilities, i tried to access the recording feature by plugging in my external hard drive. On the first hand the operation failed as my decoder failed to recognise the device. When i tried to plug in the hard drive in my laptop again, it was not detected by windows. I have a windows 8, x64 config. When i check device manager, i can see the drive's partition but i cannot access it the conventional way. Can anyone help me please.

It seems that your laptop recognizes your external hard drive. There are two options that would be available for you to resolve the issue. One option is to update your laptop’s usb driver. I am assuming that you are trying to connect it through usb. Another option is to give the laptop more time to read the hard drive. If the external hard drive is with higher capacity than the internal hard drive of your laptop, it is more likely that your driver is not matched with what you are trying to access and therefore it would take more time to read the external hard drive. So give it a time.
