I'm puzzled by this error. When I start Vmotion, this error appears under the Status column. Yet under Details column it says that the virtual machine is being prepared, so obviously the requirements are in place. What do you think is wrong here? Any help would be great!
A general system error occurred: Virtual machine must be running in order to be migrated.

This is a rare occurrence, and does not have a valid reasoning. As per nonspecific issues faced by the administrators, like the death blue screens, without any relevant cause, or Re-Start of the systems without any visible reason, this error also comes under the same “Administrators Shocks”.
What really happens is that due to NO reason, the connection between the vSphereHost and vCentre is lost, and you will not be able to find anything unusual in the Vmware.log or in the vmkernel.
What I suggest is that you forced Re-Start the VMWare service. To Re-Start the service, type the following command in the services console: “service mgmt-vmware restart” (without quotation).
Wait for some time, and then again try to start the vmotion, and so on, you will luckily be surprised how easily it starts again.
