This feature saves time and effort required to silence and back and hence makes the phone more intelligent. The sensor on the phone basically detects whether it is present in a tight environment like inside a pocket. Once the smart vibration is enabled the sensors looks out for changes in motion, and automatically switches to silent mode and back.
