As I wanted to install Norton Antivirus software in my PC, a message like the attached picture appeared.

I have tried several times but failed. In addition, I am also having problems concerning ‘Active X’ during Windows Update.

I use Windows XP Home Edition and the second type of problems show some information related to my operating system.

I would highly appreciate any assistance which will help me solve it promptly.

This particular error informs you that the installation failed and you need to remove all instances of Norton

( previous versions and failed installation ).

Before removing Norton however, you have to perform these steps first:

1. G o to Start > Run > type regsvr32 wintrust. dll in the run box

2. Hit Enter

Next, if you have the Norton Removal tool, you can remove the failed installation files. If not, you can get the removal tool form this site:

Make sure you choose the download for Windows XP. Run the Norton Removal tool and that should clear out Norton as well and the failed installation.

The above link also gives you several instructions on how to go about installing Norton properly. Whether you have a CD, a download of the installer or a pre-installed Norton product on your pc, the above site will give you instructions on how to install.

Just follow what step is appropriate for you and you should be able to install Norton now.

For you Active x concerns, you may want to post the exact error message or a more detailed description of the behavior of the error so we can troubleshoot accurately.

Cheers!
