Hi Mark Leslie,

I have read the problem that you’re encountering with your computer and I also had the same issue with my computer too. This problem was caused by either a failed installation or a corrupted file. This happened to me when I tried installing the free Norton Anti-virus that came with my laptop the installation failed to finish and I was not able to uninstall it. I seek for help and found that the only way to do uninstall it is through another Norton tool which they call Norton Removal tool. You can download it depending on what product you have. Go to this page to download the Norton Removal Tool, just follow the simple downloading steps.

Hello Mark Leslie,

To delete the old version of a virus scanner and install new one. You have to remove the old on clearly from your OS first. Then you should install the new one. You must have to remove the previous Norton. After then you have to take all of the following steps :

1. At first you have to remove the previous Norton Anti Virus and Live Update

2. Reboot your computer if it hasn't already automatically rebooted.

3. If present, delete the C:Program FilesSymantec folder.

After then you surely can install the new one. Hope you will be happy to solve this problem.

The only time that problem can happen, where there is no option to uninstall a program, is when the installation got corrupted. When this happens, you won’t have any option within Windows to remove the program. The only way to uninstall the program is to use third-party applications. To uninstall your Norton Antivirus 2005, download the free version of Revo Uninstaller and install it.

Once installed, start Revo Uninstaller then select your Norton Antivirus 2005 among the applications and click “Uninstall”. Follow the normal uninstall process. When you are prompted to restart the computer, click to restart later. When uninstall is complete, click “Scan” to scan your computer for any leftover files and delete everything it finds. This removes everything the program created on your computer.

When it is finished, close Revo Uninstaller then restart the computer. After booting, install the new antivirus. This should fix the problem.
