If your battery light flashes once green and then four oranges then this meant that the battery was too overheated to charge. Turned it off, remove the battery and let the battery sit for 2 hours.

Sometimes laptop battery does not charge when the battery is low even when the power adaptor is properly plugged into the laptop. In such situations, it’s recommended to download compatible battery drivers from manufacturer and install them instead of the Windows default drivers.

To uninstall the default drivers, go to start menu > RUN prompt. Type ‘devmgmt.msc’ and then press enter. It’ll open device manager, in which browser to Batteries > Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.

Right click on it and click Uninstall. After doing so restart the laptop and the battery should be charging properly.

Sometimes the flashing lights indicate bad battery cells.

In this case you may have to change the battery or the power jack needs to be replaced.

Laptop chargers are built differently that’s why the LED indicator also behaves differently from the other. If your Dell charger blinks while it is charging the laptop’s battery, with my sister’s Acer laptop, the LED indicator in the charger doesn’t blink and has a steady light. You should check first if the problem is with the battery. Disconnect the charger if it is currently connected.

Shut down your computer and disconnect or remove the battery from the battery compartment at the bottom of the machine. After that, connect the charger to the laptop and turn it on. See if the laptop starts. If your charger is working properly, you should be able to start your machine even without the battery and only using the charger to power it.

In this case, if you were able to start the laptop, the problem is with the battery. You should replace it with a new one designed for your laptop model. But if it doesn’t work and the laptop won’t start because there is no power, then you have a defective charger. You should replace it with a new one compatible with your laptop model.
