Hi everyone ,

I am testing windows 7 client using WDS with windows 2008 R2 as a domain controller,. With AD installed.

The problem I am having with this is I am getting an error when I tried to join a network.

I know I configured my network correctly but still I’m getting the error saying An Active Directory Domain Controller for the domain xyz.com could not be found I now this error has something to do with DNS but I don’t know how to resolve it and where  to start. Please help me or at least give me an idea about Server 2008.

Thanks

The problem is most likely originating from the place where the error suggests, and that is the DNS server. The workstation that you are using should be getting its IP address from the DHCP, and therefore you will have to make sure that the address that the workstation is getting is a valid one, and you will also have to make sure that the DNS server is also valid. You also need to check and make sure that the workstation can be able to ping the DNS server, and also the DC.

In case you are able to ping the DNS server, then you will need to ensure that the DCs that are being used are visible is the DNS zone. But in case you are not able to ping the DNS server, then you will need to make sure that the network connection details that are being used are correct, and that there is no firewall blockage of the traffic.
