How to detect a port which is open?

I have a serious problem. I am using Windows 98 and I want to know whether my port is open or closed, because I want to see my control panel with the use of a website, having online services and for that I need ports 8087 and 8088 open. I have one more computer, which runs MAC but there I can access the control panel and both the computers are connected with a wireless router.

How to detect a port which is open?

There is a simple solution for this problem, or I can say that this is the basic solution to the problem. Use the dos command "netstat -a". It will show all the ports and the computers configured to a network. Give me an acknowledgement, if the problem is resolved.

How to detect a port which is open?

Then I think that you need to ping the ports, inside the network on your computer where the ports are open and then you should ping the public IP address from outside the network, to see that there is a flow of outside traffic coming inside and blocking the ports and it will also tell you that your public servers has its port open or closed. The perfect solution depends on the Model of the router but for the instant try this.

I tried this also but I am getting an error as, "request not completed". I am really fed up of this situation.

So the last and final option is to use a software, to find open ports and to monitor them. You can use Active Ports software, which will scan all your open ports and also will help you to monitor the ports. This is the best software to scan open ports and you can download it from any file sharing website or just by searching the software on Google.
