The Fast Ethernet  is used to label the Ethernet operations that transmit traffic at the minimal 100Mbit/s over the original  10Mbit/s while the Gigabit Ethernet is used to describe several technologies for conducting Ethernet frames on Gigabit/sec rate.

Gigabit Ethernet switch is upgrade version of Fast Ethernet Switch. Fast Ethernet has 100 mbps speed. And Gigabit Ethernet switch has 1000 mbps (1gbps) speed. The only difference b/w them is of only speed.
