I am getting error code 0x5b from time to time on my Sony DSLR-A100. It does not take pictures. I would need to turn it on/off to cancel the error. Please give me advice. Thanks

This has happened for any one of these reasons:

  • The recording medium or card that has been inserted into the device is disfunctioning or incompatible to the device
  • The USB cable that is connected might not be functioning properly
  • There is likely to be a battery performance failure or battery error

As a solution, turn off the power button, take off the battery pack and re-insert it again. If this does not fix the problem, you should take the product to the SONY Service Center and they will fix it for you. Hope your problem gets solved soon. Best of Luck!

You should try updating the camera’s firmware to try fixing the problem. But before doing the update, check your camera’s current firmware version first so you will know if you still need to update it or not.

The available firmware update only applies to cameras with firmware version lower than 1.04. If your camera’s current firmware version is already 1.04 or higher then this update is not necessary.

The firmware version 1.04 update only applies to camera model DSLR-A100 and supports Mac OS X operating system only. To download this version and to read the full instructions on how to properly do the firmware update, visit the link given below.

If your computer is running on Windows operating system, download.
