Using whatsapp in my HTC one mini M4. Everything is working fine with my whatsapp but downloading of media content is automatic even after disabling. I have disabled auto download from both wi-fi and mobile-data but still voice messages are getting downloaded. Please suggest some way to stop voice messages getting downloaded every time.

If you are using WhatsApp on your Android Smartphone, one of the usual annoyances is that the app automatically downloads media files by default like audios and pictures. According to WhatsApp, this behavior is optimized for best performance. But if ever one of your friends decides to send 2 dozens of pictures of their picnic to all friends they know, the app will now be optimized for maximum annoyance instead.

Now, if you want to disable this auto-download feature of the app, here’s how to do it on Android. Start WhatsApp and then make sure the main window is displayed that shows all your chats. Tap the 3 dots on top of the screen to access the Settings then go to “Chat settings” and then select “Media auto-download”.

On the next screen, you will see 3 options:

  • When using cellular data;
  • When connected on Wi-Fi; and,
  • When roaming.

Tap each option and uncheck all 3 options inside:

  • Images
  • Audio
  • Video

This will disable the auto-download.
