CHIRP application fails to download from radio after installing update

Hello,

I installed the latest daily update of CHIRP (chirp-daily-20120720-installer). When I start CHIRP, it boots up fine. I clicked on radio after attaching an Alinco DR-235 and using an Icom OPC-478 (RS-232 to radio cable). When the download from Radio begins, I get a short flash of the ‘cloning’ popup, and then an error window is shown before the daily update. I tried this with the CBTI Alico mobile software with the same cables and settings and it worked fine. What could have caused the error after the installation? Please advice. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Since you are on Linux, make sure you already have “python-serial” and “python-libxml2” installed on your computer before using CHIRP. If you are not sure whether these two packages are installed or not, you can install them by running the following commands in the terminal:

  • For Ubuntu or Debian: apt-get install python-gtk python-serial python-libxml2
  • For Fedora or RedHat: yum install pyserial pygtk2 libxml2-python

Try it again afterwards and see if it works. After checking on the daily build you are trying to install, it’s obvious that you are installing are very old update. Uninstall CHIRP and download the latest version from CHIRP Stable Downloads. For Windows users, it supports Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8.

For Windows XP users that are having problems running CHIRP, you should visit Windows XP Help on CHIRP. For Mac users that are using Mac OS X 10.9.x Mavericks, you should visit Application Security in 10.9.x in case you encounter a problem installing CHIRP. Because starting from this version of Mac OS X, Apple already requires that all packages should be signed and this is by default.
