Hello Rose

There are a lot of Antivirus programs for android phones the difference between them is the file size and the functions, Antivirus that delivers lots of options like the Norton Antivirus it should take bigger space in your phone.

As for battery use all antivirus programs run in the background of you phone so there is a low power use by this programs and when you Command the program to start scanning all Antivirus programs will consume the same amount of power because they all scan with 100% CPU power, therefor if your phone CPU is a power full then the antivirus will consume more battery, in other word battery usage depend on your phone CPU.

As for what Antivirus in better that depend on you, different type of antivirus present different features, you should read about thus features and chose the most suitable antivirus for you.

There is a report that says malware are exploding on Anroid devices. And users have started asking if they need to install antivirus app for their devices.

First of all, Android has already a built-in antivirus function. And Google is using a service called Bouncer. This feature automatically scan the applications in Google Play for malware. When the application is uploaded, this service check on it and then evaluate it to other malware, Trojans and spyware. Also, if a user installed a malicious app, Google is capable of removing the app remotely from your phone when it comes from Google Play.

If your applications comes from other sources that is not from Google Play, these applications were not checked for any malicious threats. If your Android is version 4.2 and you attempt to sideload any app, you will be asked if you want to verify that those sideloaded apps are safe from these threats to ensure that all apps are being check for malware.

If you want to know if your device needs a antivirus, the study shows that most malware comes from other sources. If you just install apps from within Google Play, your device is safe. There is a security permissions asked before you install any app. Do not install apps that needs to send SMS messages to function. If you are just downloading apps from inside Google Play, you don't need to install any antivirus. However, antivirus apps have special features. They sometimes include Find My Android Device feature which is useful for finding your device remotely. Avast! has a Privacy Report feature that will arrange your installed apps. This will help you to identify which app needs too many permissions. They also have a Firewall that lets the rooted devices to block specific devices from browsing the internet.
