Earlier version of Flashback Trojan horse sent information about your Mac to some remote server, but this new Trojan is more serious threat. New Mac Trojan Flashback.C wipes out certain files making XProtect automatic updates disabled (XProtect is anti-malware application built-in Apple’s OS X). It is common malware’s tactic – built-in defenses are always first target for malwares to disable. You can only get infected while double-clicking on a rogue file disguises itself as a Flash installer. During the process you will be prompt for your administrator’s password, entering that information triggers Flashback.C and he wipes out files necessary for malware definition update. Now you don’t receive any update informing you about malicious software releases from Apple. Only that prevents Flashback.C threat is having Little Snitch app installed. If you are concerned please visit F-Secure’s page for removal instructions. There is no need to worry if you downloaded your software (Flash Player) from Adobe’s website.
