Hello Everyone!

I was wondering how can I test my disk drive speed. Is there any disk drive speed calculator software to help me determine my disk drive speed such as access time and data transfer time? If you know how to manually test disk drive speed please help me with step-by-step instruction and with pictures.

Disk drive speed calculator software

Hi! If you are using Ubuntu as your Operating System, you can see the speed of your Hard drive by following these steps:

1. You need to go to "System" then "Administration" and then go to "Disk Utility"

2. Click your hard disk located in the left pane

3. Select the "Benchmark-Measure Drive Performance" located in the right pane

4. This window will open displaying a chart.

On the lower part of the window, you can see the "Start Read-only Benchmark" that it will measure the rate and access time and the "Start Reads/Write Benchmark" that will measure both read and write rate and access time.

If you are using Windows 7, you can test the speed of your hard drive using these steps:

1. Go to "My Computer"

2. Go to "System Properties"

3. Select the "Device Manager" located in the right pane

4. Expand the Hard Drive controller

5. Select the "Port"

6. And Click the "Test" button
