How to shut down my computer without waiting?

Sometimes I feel to shut down computer immediately but the normal way to shut down computer is not happened immediately.

It takes time.

I am using Windows XP operating system.

Is there any way to shut down computer immediately?

I can pull out the plug or hold the power key but as per as I know it is harmful for computer hardware.

So is there any other way which is not harmful for computer.

Tell me if you know any.

 As you say it is harmful to pull out the plug or hold the power button, there are other ways too which are not harmful.

But let me remind you something normal ways are most effective and harmless.

However, you can shut down computer immediately through the most famous combination in computer world. Yeah you get it right Ctrl + Alt + Delete. You can do it through this. Let me clear you. Press this combination first (Ctrl + Alt + Delete) then click on shut down.

Now just press Ctrl and simultaneously click turn off on start menu. Now see the wonder or miracle. Your computer can be turned off in a flash. It takes not more than two seconds hopefully. I am hoping it will help you to solve your query.

It satisfies your urgency of shutting down immediately.

Now experience the difference and enjoy the thrill.

The values of the registry and open applications are the one responsible for the long wait. 

Let me help you by giving you a tip to reduce the amount of time that your computer takes before it completely shutdown.

In the first part of this tip, we will set the amount of time that will take for the Windows to close running applications.

1. First, open-up REGEDIT and look for HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelDesktop.
2. Look for WaitToKillAppTimeout value, highlight it, and you should set it to 1000.
3. Next is to find HungAppTimeout value, highlight it, and set it again to 1000.

For the second part, we will alter same settings but now it's for all users.

1. Open-up REGEDIT, look for HKEY_USERS.DEFAULTControl PanelDesktop.
2. Look for WaitToKillAppTimeout value, highlight it, and set to 1000.
3. Locate HungAppTimeout value, highlight it, and set it also to 1000.

The third part will deal with changing the second registry to reduce the Windows's time for closing services after getting a command to shutdown.

1. Open-up REGEDIT and find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetControl.
2. Look for value WaitToKillServiceTimeout and highlight it.
3. Modify value to 1000.
