I tried to play some rar files using winamp but unsuccessful. How can I use winamp to play files from rar format?
If it doesn't support then which software can be used to convert the rar files.

You can not play .rar files using winamp because only audio formats are supported by winamp. In the zipped package .rar files are not recognized by winamp. So you need to unzip .rar files first. There are some reasons behind it. Whenever you are downloading some files they contain zipping applications and it permits you upload several files at a time. And these files are not recognized by winamp. You can get the application from the site http://download.cnet.com/s/software/windows/. Here you will get the necessary tools to unzip those .rar files. I don’t think you will be able to play RAR files (*.rar) with Winamp because a RAR file is not a media file in the first place. Winamp can only play media files like AVI (*.avi), MPG (*.mpg), MP3 (*.mp3), WAV (*.wav), and more. A RAR file is an archive or compressed file created with WinRAR, a file compressor, which may contain one or more files.
Similar programs like WinZip and 7-Zip can also create compressed files but using a different file format. With WinZip, the default file format used for compressed file is ZIP (*.zip) while for 7-Zip, the default file format used is 7z (*.7z). Also, both WinZip and 7-Zip can open RAR files and extract or unpack its contents.
