Try out Nova launcher in Galaxy Note 10.1

I am using Galaxy Note 10.1 and have heard that Nova Launcher makes the tablet run faster and smoother. Is this true? I am eager to try it out so can you advice me if I should go for the basic or the prime one for $4? What features will I compromise upon in the basic one?
